I teach at a secondary school in the village. The school where I teach is fifteen kilo meters from my house and is in the mountainous area. The road to reach the school where I teach is not easy; winding and sometimes impassable.
Climate change is not a serious issue for my students. Yes, because they live in mountainous area that is certainly not hot. But climate change still has influence there.
In the dry season, water is very hard to get. Sometimes my students do not wash when they go to school because of lack of water. However, if the heavy rains come, there are many cases of landslides.
The students of course understand that the lack of water in the dry season and landslides in the rainy season due to fewer trees. They have gained knowledge about this since they were still studying in primary school. But the willingness to replant is still very low.
Many teachers have advised students on the importance of planting trees and keeping them for life. However, this advice was never implemented.
Fortunately, some time ago, Pacitan Regent proclaimed reforesting areas that need reforestation. The Thousand Trees Program launched by The Regent made us ask each student to bring a tree to be planted on a hill that is almost bare.
We do not stop there. We keep planting Trees in every inch of ground. I hope one day our situation will be better.
